Throughout his work in Europe as a psychoanalyst between 1930-40, W. Reich (1897-1957) developed the theoretical and clinical bases of Character-analytic vegetotherapy. These bases constitute the historical and conceptual references of what are nowadays called “body-psychotherapies”. The influence of Reich in the development of “body, breath, holistic and energy” therapies has also been considerable.
The objective of this encounter is to facilitate the understanding of techniques and strategies based on somatics (the body) and now used in the main body-psychotherapies and in some psychodynamic and humanist models. The origin of these techniques, their function and their clinical application will thus be studied. The difference between the use of techniques and the development of a psychotherapeutic process within a clinical frame will also be examined. In order to fulfil this goal, we will create a “matricial” group atmosphere which will allow us to use some of these techniques on participants. We will use their experience as a reference to develop the theoretical-clinical aspects of the programme.

Target participants: mental health professionals, physiotherapists, body therapists, and anyone interested in this topic.Given the characteristics of the workshop, it is advised to dress comfortably and to bring a towel, a blanket, and to wear a bikini or briefs.
