“Brief
character-analytic psychotherapy” (B.C.P.) has been developed in the ES.TE.R.
from the clinical work of the reichian psychotherapist and Orgone therapist
Xavier Serrano Hortelano. It is an application of character-analytic
vegetotherapy (depth psychotherapy created by W. Reich) to focal and brief
clinical assistance.
The theoretical
reference is character analysis and analytically oriented brief psychotherapy,
to which specific tools from the post-reichian clinical work have been
incorporated. B.C.P. has its proper dynamics, concerning the goals, the
criteria of analysability, the diagnosis, the way the therapeutic relationship
is tackled, the therapeutic focus, and the clinical tools that are used.
This therapy is
based on a systematics endorsed by more than 20 years of clinical practice. It
has shown to reach the target goals, and to be particularly useful in public
health centres where, in many cases, it appears to be a functional alternative
to cognitive-behaviourist therapy and psychopharmacology. Its reliability has
been proven by evaluation and follow-up surveys realised on a sufficient number
of patients during several years. Over the last few years, more and more people
have been using B.C.P., such as professionals from different European or Latin
American countries.
In this course,
the participants will understand the development of B.C.P. within the tradition
of brief psychotherapy, as well as its specificities and how to use it.

-Clinical cases in B.C.P. of patients showing specific syndromes: agoraphobia, depression, impotency, anorexia, vaginismus, stress, anxiety neurosis...
The clinical activity will be supported by clinical cases, with the transcription of sessions and notes on B.C.P. process supervision which will be distributed among the participants.
WORKSHOP
With volunteer participants, display of specific B.C.P. body-psychotherapy techniques used to make the diagnosis. Performing of specific B.C.P. techniques on participants. You are advised to dress adequately for this activity so that your body is visible. It is also important that you can move freely and have epidermal and muscle sensitivity.
TEACHING METHODS
We will first study theory and then the clinical part. However, a moment will be devoted each day to work on a practical aspect with the participants (during the hours requiring less cognitive stimulation). The theoretical and clinical parts will start with a lecture. Then the participants will gather in small groups to answer questionnaires created by the teacher to facilitate the synthesis of the classes and to draw out the main points. Transparencies and DVD will be used for some cases.
Target participants: last years students and health professionals.
ES.TE.R. pupils
shall attend this course. It is part of their second cycle of training, which
requires the attendance of 50 hours of seminars on B.C.P. clinical cases.
Duration: 30 hours in four days.
Fees: 300 euros / ES.TE.R. students: 250 euros // Students and unemployed: 260 euros.
