The process of Membership Applications for Accredited Members is as follows and it is the primary responsibility of the EABP Membership Secretary to oversee this process.
They must be returned to the EABP Membership Secretary, via the EABP Secretariat, with the Membership Declaration signed as well (click here), unless the applicant lives in a country where there is a EABP National Association (Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Serbia/Montenegro, Russia), when they must be returned to the National Association Chairpersons. These people can be contacted more directly by clicking here.

Membership Forms for Associate Members are also available, click here. Associate Membership is for people who do not want, or who are not ready for, accreditation by EABP. It is a way of staying in touch with us and getting information and supporting EABP.
A. If the applicant's country does NOT have a National Association: (all countries except those below)
(1) Application Forms and Membership Declarations are sent to the EABP Membership Secretary, via the EABP Secretariat, from the applicant, now referred to as the Candidate. The documents enclosed will then be checked. An acknowledgement will then be sent back to the applicant, if everything is in order. If there is insufficient information or if there are mistakes, the Membership Secretary will communicate with the Candidate until the application is acceptable and in order. The timing of the application starts from this point of having received a correct application which has been acknowledged as such.
(2) A copy of the application will then be sent to the Candidate Member's National Committee - i.e. an EABP member in that country. A reply must be received from that person within one month. The EABP Membership Secretary will monitor this process.
(3a) If an affirmative response from the National Committee is received, then a copy of the application and the National Committee's reply will be sent by post to the EABP Executive Board for ratification. The 3 Executive Committee members of the Board can accept an application if everything is in order. The Membership Secretary is not part of this decision. The Executive Board members should reply to the Membership Secretary within two weeks.
(3b) If there is no National Committee, or if a response is not received within a month, the Membership Secretary must then (a) either obtain information from someone else in that country to ratify the Candidate's membership, or (b) get a ratification from another Board Member. This should happen as soon as possible (ideally within two to three weeks) so that the Candidate Members application is not delayed.
(4a) If the application is successful at this point, i.e. a "YES", the Candidate will hear back directly from the Membership Secretary. The whole application process from Candidate's receipt of an acknowledgement of a proper application to a decision being communicated should not take more than two months.
(4b) If there is a question about the application - ie that the Candidate does not fulfil the criteria properly - then the Executive Board cannot make that decision to accept. The Candidate will be informed immediately as to the reasons why the application has not succeeded in this first stage. The Candidate will be given a choice to withdraw their application, or to continue. If the Candidate chooses to continue, a meeting of the International Membership Committee will be convened to decide upon the status of the application. This takes considerably longer - possibly another three months.
(5) When the Candidate hears from the Membership Secretary that their application has been successful, they must then immediately pay the EABP Membership fee and must have signed the EABP Membership Declaration and have sent this back to the Membership Secretary, with evidence that the fee has been paid. They are then a EABP Member.
(6) The EABP Membership Secretary receives back the Membership Declaration; files the Candidate's application in the archives; and sends the applicant's name and address to the Treasurer. On receipt of the new Member's fees, the General Secretary is informed. The Candidate is then put on the EABP Register of Accredited European Body-Psychotherapists.
(7) If the application is not successful and has been rejected by the International Membership Committee, the Candidate can apply only to the EABP Board. Their decision is final.
B. Alternatively if a National Association exists (currently Austria, Germany, Greece, Italy, Serbia/Montenegro, Russia, Switzerland, The Netherlands):
(1) Application forms from the Candidate should be sent directly to the National Association's address in that country. The application forms may be in the language of that country. The National Association will have appointed someone to check the application and will also send a copy of the form to the EABP Membership Secretary. The Membership Secretary will therefore know that an application is in process, but has no part in the decision-making process.
(2 & 3) The National Association should then, within one month in ALL cases, send the result of the application (Yes or No) to the Candidate.
(4) If the application is successful, i.e. a "YES", the applicant will hear back directly from the National Association. The whole application process from Candidate's receipt of an acknowledgement of a proper application to a decision being communicated should not have taken more than one month.
(5) When the Candidate hears from the National Association that their application has been successful, they must then immediately pay the EABP Membership fee and sign a copy of the EABP Membership Declaration and send this back to the National Association.
(6) The EABP Membership Secretary must be informed by the National Association about the result of the application; and then files the application in the archives. The National Association must also forward the Candidate's name and address to the General Secretary so that s/he is informed. The Candidate is then put on the EABP Register of Accredited European Body-Psychotherapists.
(7) If the application is not successful and has been rejected by the National Association, the Candidate can apply to the EABP International Membership Committee. Their decision is final.
