THIS IS HOW WE ARE CURRENTLY FULFILLING THESE AIMS:
We have over 600 Body-Psychotherapist Members in about 21 different countries, mostly European, and we have some members in 5 other countries: USA, Canada, various South American countries, Australia. This represents only a small percentage of qualified and experienced Body-Psychotherapists, many of whom are members of other professional and accrediting organisations. We are seeking to increase the size and scope of our Membership. We have added new categories of membership.
We are encouraging the Body Psychotherapists in various countries to form National Associations and to represent themselves and Body-Psychotherapy in the National Umbrella Organisations for psychotherapy in their country.
We are in contact with about 45 Training & Professional Organisations specialising in Body-Psychotherapy. Many of these (about 30) now have an involvement with EABP through The FORUM for Body-Psychotherapy Organisations, where we are setting up an independent structure for the accreditation of Body Psychotherapy trainings. There are about 30 different approaches or techniques within the field of Body-Psychotherapy. Several of these have now achieved "scientific validity" status through the EAP. In EABP, we seek to represent as wide a range of Body-Psychotherapies as possible.
We have been accepted as a European Wide Accrediting Organisational Member (EWAO) of the European Association of Psychotherapy (EAP) and, as such, we have a seat on their Board, and representation on the Training Standards Committee. We have established the "Scientific Validity" of Body-Psychotherapy with the EAP, according to the criteria of their 15 Questions. To see this document, click here.
EABP has voted its agreement with the Strasbourg Declaration of Psychotherapy, October 1990 and takes the position that psychotherapy is an independent profession, with a specific professional role, with various modes of entry and a variety of specialisations. We are working, in most European countries, to gain official recognition equal to other branches of psychotherapy. EABP Full Members can apply for the European Certificate of Psychotherapy through their National Association.
EABP sponsors the EABP Bibliography of Body-Psychotherapy Project, available on CD-ROM, now with over 3,500 entries. For information about this, click here.
EABP also sponsors the publication of research projects, the translation of a new Handbook for Body Psychotherapy, conferences about Body-Psychotherapy, and several other smaller projects.
